Aerodynamics and the Automobile (Grade 6: Science)

Description

Cars and airplanes both move through the air. In this thought-provoking program, students will apply what they've been learning about airplanes to our spectacular collection of vintage vehicles to see whether the same principles of aerodynamics hold true. Do cars need to be as aerodynamic as airplanes? Are they really aerodynamic, or do they just look like it? Why don't they make minivans look like Lamborghinis - what is the balance between form and function?  How does a new design go from concept car to production vehicle? With a little practice, students will be able to analyze a car's aerodynamic qualities, suggest modifications and predict future trends.
