Courting Change (Grade 6: Social Studies)

Description

In this program we invite students to explore the historical importance of the actions of private citizens who, through protest and legal challenges, changed the shape of Canadian law in the first third of the twentieth century. Explore issues related to the rights of women and children; causes dear to the hearts of the Famous 5. Dress in pink frocks and join us for a pink tea to discuss and debate women’s rights in the post-WWI era. Later, play a role in the mock courtroom trial to decide whether or not working conditions for Alberta’s children in the 1910s need to be changed.
