Aboriginal Interpreter (Seasonal)

Heritage Park is looking for Aboriginal applicants (18 years and older) interested in interpreting the history and culture of Treaty 7 First Nations or of Métis Culture for our many park visitors for the summer and fall season.  If you love talking to people, telling stories and sharing your cultural heritage, this job is for you.   

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Educates and engages the public in the history, cultural traditions, and lifestyles of Treaty 7 First Nations or Métis during the late 1800s
  • Works as part of a team of First Nations Interpreters in period appropriate clothing at our tipi encampment portraying daily life in the buffalo days OR works as a Métis Interpreter in period appropriate clothing in our HBC Fort, Livingston House or Mission exhibits portraying daily life during the buffalo days, fur trade or pre-railway times
  • Demonstrates traditional activities, tools, and other materials
  • Sets up and puts away artifacts and activity materials daily

Job Requirements: 

  • Comfortable sharing knowledge of First Nations or Métis culture and speaking with visitors of all ages and backgrounds
  • Experience speaking in front of groups; interpretive experience is a definite asset
  • Knowledge of Treaty 7 First Nations history, culture, language, or traditional activities and skills OR Métis history, culture, language and traditional activities

Hours of Work:

  • Full-time hours available May to Labour Day, with weekend work during September and October (until Thanksgiving)
  • Part-time hours also available throughout the season
