All Aboard for 32nd annual Railway Days
Calgary, AB – Heritage Park’s extensive rail history takes centre stage during the 32nd annual Railway Days, sponsored by CP, September 22 and 23, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This year’s theme is the Great Western Rail Adventure, and is in celebration of the nearly two million pioneers who immigrated by rail to Western Canada!
After two years of restoration work, the much anticipated Colonist rail car will finally be open! Car #1202, built in 1905, is the oldest and one of only two Colonist cars left in the country. Over two million settlers travelled across the country on bare-boned cars like this to begin their new lives. This car is an intrinsic piece of Heritage Park’s mission; Connecting people to the settlement of Western Canada. History and restoration tours run all weekend, allowing visitors to climb aboard this wooden rail car and take a seat where so many hopeful newcomers sat over 100 years ago in eager anticipation of their new lives out west.
Railway Days is the only time of year you can tour the cab of one of Heritage Park’s steam engines, take a ride in a caboose, watch a turntable demonstration and see two trains running throughout the park! There will be model rail displays, singing hobos, hand-car rides plus many other activities and demonstrations for all ages.
Children aged 3-12 can enter a Railway Days colouring contest for a chance to win prizes, and adults are welcome to submit their photos based on this year’s theme for a chance to win cash prizes! Both contests are open until September 16th and details are all online at https://www.heritagepark.ca/plan-your-visit/event-calendar/railway-days.html
