Full Steam Ahead for 31st Annual Railway Days
Calgary, AB – Heritage Park’s extensive rail history takes centre stage during the 31st annual Railway Days, presented by CP, September 23 and 24, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This year’s event is all about big, powerful steam machines; from Heritage Park’s two mighty steam engines to the newly restored antique steam equipment, in operation for the first time in the Park’s history!
Don’t miss the unveiling and inaugural start up of the recently restored 1920 CP Rail steam crane, the only working 100 ton locomotive crane in all of Canada! Nine years of work has gone into bringing this mountain crane, previously used between Calgary and the Crowsnest Pass area back to life. Other demonstrations include the newly restored 1912 Watrous steam roller, and Heritage Park’s original 1907 turntable, located behind the roundhouse.
Railway days is the only time of year you can tour the cab of one of Heritage Park’s steam engines, take a ride in a caboose and send a telegram from one train station to another across the Park! There will be model rail displays, a steam themed photo contest, plus many other activities for all ages.
