Calgary, AB (September 10, 2018) – Since 1975, an immense wooden H bearing an axe has stood as a beacon, greeting all who come to Heritage Park Historical Village. This iconic symbol is now getting a much needed facelift.
Restoration work on the Big H is now underway with the completion date estimated for September 21st. The work area has been fenced off and pathway users are being detoured around the area.
The restoration includes repairing the wooden logs that make up the H, restoration of the large axe, repair to the river stone base and the addition of spot lighting.
The Big H, located off the Glenmore Reservoir pathway and visible to all from 14th street and Heritage Drive was once the symbol associated with all of Heritage Park’s branding. Although the park has grown and changed significantly over the past 54 years, the Big H has remained the unwavering symbol of Heritage Park Historical Village in the hearts and minds of Calgarians.
Shane Homes has graciously stepped up to provide the project management and labour for the restoration, while funds raised from a fundraising campaign have been put towards the material costs.
Heritage Park Historical Village is a registered charity (Registration No. 11895 6457 RR0001) governed by the Heritage Park Society. Heritage Park’s mission statement is Connecting People with the Settlement of Western Canada.
