Heritage Park President and CEO

Lindsey Galloway joined Heritage Park in 2020 as President and CEO. Committed to the belief that understanding the past helps define our aspirations for the future, he is focused on expanding the Park’s position as one of Alberta’s most beloved family destinations and most visited tourist attractions.

Lindsey’s 40-year career includes two decades as an executive with such beloved attractions as the Calgary Stampede, Calgary Zoo, and Edmonton Valley Zoo. Previously he worked in journalism and politics in Saskatchewan, transitioning to public affairs with Canadian Airlines (Vancouver and Calgary) and RBC Financial Group (Montreal and Toronto).

Lindsey currently serves on the Audit, Finance and Governance Committee of the Tourism Industry Association of Alberta (TIAA), for which he was previously a Board member. He also served as board chair of Canada’s Accredited Zoos and Aquariums, for which he also chaired the Ethics and Compliance Committee. Outside of his professional pursuits, Lindsey and his wife Lorrae share a passion for travel and golf.

Volunteers Make the Difference

The Park has more than 1,800 volunteers who play a vital role in our operations.

Volunteers generously donate their time in many capacities: The Heritage Park Society Board of Trustees, the Heritage Park Foundation Board of Trustees, operational and special event committees, program delivery, food service at private functions, costume production and care, Park promotions and much more.

Departments

Keeping Heritage Park running smoothly is a combined effort by our various divisions. Browse the Society Divisions below to learn more about their contributions to Park operations.

Facilities and Maintenance

This division coordinates regular building and grounds maintenance as well as capital construction projects, which are undertaken by staff or by tender, depending on their size and complexity. It is also responsible for maintaining and staffing our seasonal railway operations, midway rides, S.S. Moyie paddlewheeler and streetcar operations. The division employs a variety of trades on a year-round basis, including mechanics, carpenters, painters and grounds maintenance workers.

People and Culture

This division develops, coordinates and oversees a variety of staff programs, including employee and volunteer recruitment, training, performance management, compensation, payroll, pension and benefits administration as well as employee and labour relations.

This division also develops, coordinates and oversees safety and security programs for the employees, volunteers, guests and assets of the organization. Our security operations run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Food Services

This division is responsible for the year-round and seasonal catered events, restaurants, concessions, kitchens and group sales. It employs a variety of trades on a year-round basis, including chefs, cooks, dishwashers, servers, bakers, event planners and housekeepers/porters.

Programming and Experiences

This division is responsible for all aspects of our year-round and seasonal educational and interpretive programming. Positions include exhibit interpreters, First Nations programming interpreters, roving character actors, teamsters and ranch and stable hands. Our costuming and curatorial staff are also part of the Interpretation division. Our educational programming includes a variety of adult and school programs as well as our summer camps. In addition, the Park’s major special events are planned and executed from this area.

Fund Development

This division plans and coordinates fundraising initiatives through special ticketed events, as well as annual and capital fundraising campaigns. The professional fundraisers in this department actively seek and encourage support from individual donors, corporations and all three levels of government.

Marketing and Communications

This division is responsible for the organization’s year-round marketing, corporate branding, communications, public relations, market and customer service research, annual membership sales and website management.

Finance and IT

The Finance and IT division is responsible for all of the Park’s accounting and treasury functions, as well as gate admissions. In addition to accounting professionals, employment opportunities in this division include gate hosts and cashiers. IT services and support are contracted to an external part

Retail Operations and Guest Relations

This division is responsible for all of our retail enterprises, which include five year round shops in Heritage Town Square and those in the village that are open only in the summer, featuring our famous Claresholm General Store (candy store). The warehouse department ensures products are received and distributed throughout our facilities, and warehouse equipment and vehicles are maintained in accordance with park and safety standards. Our guest services department that fulfills the call centre and reception role are also part of this division.
