In 2015, Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club hosted the third annual Shaw Charity Classic, one of the largest and most successful events held in the city of Calgary. The Shaw Charity Classic is a PGA Tour Champions event featuring professional golfers among the likes of Golf Hall of Famers Fred Couples, Colin Montgomerie, and Mark O’Meara. With close to 44 500 spectators, 1 200 volunteers, outstanding weather and a strong field list, the tournament won the prestigious President's Award for the second year in a row for top event on PGA Tour Champions.

In three short years of existence, the tournament has raised over $8.5 million for charity, with children being the primary benefactors of those dollars. Over 125 Alberta-based charities have benefitted from the Shaw Charity Classic.

How does it work?
Donors can either make a one-time flat donation or a pledge for each birdie made by Champions Tour players during the 2016 Shaw Charity Classic. Donations can be made up until Sunday August 4, 2016 at 11:59:59 PM MT.

What is a Birdie?
In golf, a ‘birdie’ is a score of one stroke better than ‘par’ for any golf hole on the course. ‘Par’ is the expected score of a golf professional on any given hole. For example, on a par 4, a score of 3 is a birdie. In 2013, there were 1,000 birdies at the Shaw Charity Classic, and in 2014 there were 892. We estimate 875 birdies will be made during the 2016 Shaw Charity Classic.

Matching Program
The most exciting part of the program comes together from various corporate supporters with AltaLink being the Founding
Partner. Every dollar raised by a Heritage Park will be matched up to 50%. Heritage Park will receive 100% of every donation collected on our behalf, as the Shaw Charity Classic tournament will cover all administrative and program expenses.
