Discovery Days for Homeschoolers

Grade 1 - 7 Field Trips

Heritage Park's Discovery Days are where home-schooled students can spend the day exploring, learning, and having fun at Heritage Park.

Students will be in groups of up to 14 with 1 – 2 leaders per group. They will explore different themes throughout the year through curriculum-based programs delivered all around the Park. Students may sign up for a single or multiple days. Registration is available on a first-come, first-served basis; payment must be made online and at the time of registration.

February Programs are winter camps for Teachers’ Convention

Dates: Feb 17-18
Teachers’ Convention Camp (Ages 6-11)


Camp runs from 9:30-4:00 on February 17-18
Come and join us at Heritage Park for a wintry camp. On February 17th and 18th, we will explore Heritage Park in ways that many people do not get to experience. Get your toques and mittens and get ready for camp to beat the February blues.
Campers will have the chance to:
•    Go on a wintry wagon ride
•    Create marbled paper crafts
•    Explore the historic buildings at the park
•    Play some games of indoor curling
Campers will be divided into 3 groups based on age. Children must have reached their sixth birthday prior to the first day of camp.

COVID-19 safety protocols will be in place as per Alberta Health Services guidelines. We will continue to monitor guidance from health authorities and will adjust our programs as necessary.
Cost/rates
The Teachers’ Convention Camp has a fee of $100 for the two-day camp.

 

Winter Outdoor Survival Camp (Ages 12+)


Camp runs from 9:30-4:00 on February 17-18
What would you do if you got lost in the cold wintry woods? This class is an introduction to outdoor survival techniques. We will demonstrate how to make a fire, build a shelter, filter water, cook food over a fire, and assemble an emergency kit. Students will get hands-on experience and learn what to do if they get lost in the wilderness.
Winter Outdoor Survival Camp is not a curriculum-based program. Heritage Park is not offering any certifications or school related programming for this camp.
This program will include:
•    Background Info
•    Intro to Outdoor Survival Skills
•    What to do if you get lost in the woods: Priorities
•    Fire
•    Shelter
•    Water
•    Food
•    Emergency Kit
COVID-19 safety protocols will be in place as per Alberta Health Services guidelines. We will continue to monitor guidance from health authorities and will adjust our programs as necessary. Participants in this program will be required to provide proof of vaccination, or a negative rapid test in accordance with AHS guidelines.

The Outdoor Survival Camp has a fee of $100 for the two-day camp.

Refund Policy 

  • All registrations are non-refundable as we are unable to honour any/all cancellations. 

  • Heritage Park reserves the right to cancel programs in the event of low enrollment. In such cases, registration fees will be refunded in full.

  • Transfer of program dates will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
