This holiday tradition returns in December for ten days of festive fun and old-fashioned Christmas charm!

Christmas Market Returns to Once Upon A Christmas

We're excited to announce the return of Heritage Park's Once Upon a Christmas Market, open 10am-4pm on event days and located in the Historical Village. 



Child (3-15) $14.95

General (16+) $19.95


Admission tickets will also be available at the front gate during the event.  

Annual Members do not need to pre-order their complimentary admission tickets online.

Once Upon a Christmas Breakfast Buffet tickets are on sale! Please call Guest Services to purchase your Breakfast Buffet tickets with a reduced rate on your admission. 403.268.8500.


 What to Expect around Heritage Park Historical Village 

Famous 5:
Famous Five celebrates a 1920s Christmas! Come take part in a radio play based on one of Nellie McClung’s Christmas stories as you help create the sound effects.
Hannukah traditions return to the park! From dreidels to menorahs, learn all about this Jewish holiday here at Heritage Park’s Little Synagogue as we celebrate Hannukah. Join us for Storytelling sessions daily.
Prince House:
Uncover the Prince house’s French-Canadian connection as you experience some of the traditions of a French-Canadian Christmas. Learn about the “Reveillon En Famille“, a traditional dinner after the Christmas eve Mass and the “Creche”, an elaborate nativity scene. Enjoy traditional Christmas postcards from family and friends.
Sandstone House:
For some, the main event of the holiday season is Hogmanay - a Scottish New Year’s celebration, which likely would have been celebrated by Colonel Macleod and his family, who once lived in this handsome home. Learn about Scottish traditions and choose your First-Footer from amongst your friends and family to bring good luck for the New Year.
Ranch House:
Enjoy a simple Canadian Prairie Christmas at the Ranch House, complete with poplar branch Christmas tree, and handmade gifts.  Learn about the simple ways early immigrants managed to celebrate when money was scarce. Take in the tantalizing aroma of historic Christmas baking on a wood-fired stove. 
Atlas Lumber:
Santa’s workshop is alive and well!  Visit with our talented wood carvers from the Calgary Carvers Association and Heritage Park and enjoy demonstrations of their craft and displays of their past work, including some carved wooden toys.     
Blacksmith Shop:
Watch as our blacksmiths forge unique Christmas and holiday gifts right in front of your eyes- that you can purchase! (Exact Change only). Learn about the history of blacksmithing and how it was vital in a small prairie town.
Strathmore Standard:
Learn how a newspaper was created and printed as you watch demonstrations of our historic equipment in action. Calendars, notepads and holiday cards, all handmade on our historic presses, make for a really special gift! (Cash only)
Thorpe House:
In Norway, where the Thorpe family came from, many of the holiday traditions began with Yule, a holiday still celebrated today. Norwegian Christmas decorations, as well as minds on activities, will let you discover the importance of the Winter Solace and why it was a cause for celebration.
Gasoline Alley:
Enjoy a storybook Christmas in Gasoline Alley as you rediscover favourite characters from the 1950’s including Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, Mrs. Claus, Frosty the Snowman and more. Try our Reindeer Scavenger Hunt, and don't forget to write a letter to Santa! Take a nighttime journey through a twinkling wonderland amid the glowing gas pumps in the Lower Showroom and admire a 1940s miniature village.
